Happy has been in his new foster home for a full week now, and his charming personality is shining through! He minds quite well and does not need to be given commands more than once to do what you want. Happy has done absolutely nothing naughty since he has been with us and is 100% house broken. Happy can entertain himself independently without getting into any trouble, but his favorite thing to do is to be by his foster brothers (Rott/Shep mix) shadow. They are so cute together. They walk or trot shoulder to shoulder as if they know exactly where they are going. It reminds me of two boys going on a hike along abandoned railroad tracks. All they are missing is their little packs tied up at the end of sticks. They are off on an adventure! Happy is a beautiful bright white with all the traditional markings of his primary breed; the Beagle. He does not bark, but more bays. The great thing is, he does not do this to annoyance, and will stop as soon as you tell him to. What a good boy! He is watchful, as dogs should be and lets me know when something is 'up'. And he is never wrong. I appreciate the heads-up he gives me. Speaking of entertaining himself, he can usually be found right in the middle of the fenced yard, sunbathing. Just sleeping and soaking up the sun's warmth. It is quite cute and makes me feel good that he trusts me to 'have his back' too, like he has mine. Happy just is no problem to have around, including in the house. He has good manners and usually chooses his own bed to take naps on. He eats twice a day and does not seem preoccupied with food. That is good, so you yourself can eat in piece. Just tell him to go lay down and he leaves until invited back. I got him plenty of big bones to chew, chew, chew on. This has cleaned his teeth and breath right up! Feeding a good quality dog food, like 4Health from Tractor Supply is recommended. It is a great dog food at the best price. It is crunchy and helps to keep his teeth clean and breath smelling good. He eats so little that it is not expensive to feed him this. I chose senior lamb & rice for him because he had put on some weight at his last home. Between good food and friends to play with, he is getting down to his health play weight. Although Happy is 7 years old, you wouldn't know it for any negative reasons, but only the good reasons! He is low-key, not spastic (lol), gentle with his human interactions and sincerely thankful to have been chosen to be part of a family. The way he crashes out on his bed at night and quietly snores, speaks to his age, but it is sweet and fills your heart with the joy of having given this mature guy a place to spend his mid-life years. Happy is neutered and UTD on all his vaccines, HW, and FT. RPSM recommends children 6 years and older. Happy will require a fenced in yard, either physical or underground.
